1 Peter 4.7

“The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers." 1 Peter‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭

Prayer is a battlefield. It is tragic that pray often becomes routine and empty. Prayer is supernatural power. It is the living God working in and through human heart and hands. When we pray, we literally are waging war in the supernatural realm. God invites us to see Him work wonders through prayer. The invitation is ours, will we go? Will we enter into a battle? Through this verse we see two reasons that we neglect prayer.

1. Lack of self control. It takes discipline to pray. When we pray, we are killing the flesh but feeding our spirits with rivers of living water. We as humans are so thirsty, thirsty for comfort, love and communion. We will go search for those things in other places if we don't take our needs to God. He created our needs and He perfectly satisfies them. It's our lack of self control that drives us to false god's, who quickly flaunt their treasure, but what you see is everything they are. The glory of God never ends, it reaches as far as the heavens. The false gods that we are so tempted to run to have no power and praying to them is powerless. The Living God has all power and authority on earth and heaven and He hears every prayer.
2. We fill our minds with worthless trash. We get drunk on the flaunts of the world and and have no appetite for spiritual things. We Set our mind on things on this earth and don't even pay a though to the things above. We are commanded to set our mind on things above! When we have a heavenly mind, prayer will be an overflow of that perfect state of peace in God.

Many things keep us from prayer. But the end of all things is at hand. Be self controlled (fruit of the spirit), sober minded (a mind renewed by God's Word) and wage war in the battlefield. He sees, He hears and He works in on our behalf!

Application: Today I am praying through Ephesians 6 for my team.
