2 Samuel 11.11-13

Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah dwell in booths, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are camping in the open field. Shall I then go to my house, to eat and to drink and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing."

Then David said to Uriah, "Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will send you back." So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. And David invited him, and he ate in his presence and drank, so that he made him drunk.

And in the evening he went out to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, but he did not go down to his house.”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭11:11-13‬ ‭

Every time I read this story I am blown away. I am blown away by Uriah's character and faithfulness. Uriah didn't settle for mediocre, he pushed for total radical abandonment. I want my life to be marked by that abandonment fir Jesus and His mission on earth. Uriah was fully surrendered to the mission set before him, heart and soul. There was no turning back in his mind.

The other day I was talking to my youth pastor and he gave the example of when he first visited his girlfriend (whom he married). He said that getting on that plane for the first time to meet a woman he loved was daunting and there were many things that could go wrong. But he didn't care, he had to be with his love. How much more should that be our testimony as Jesus is the lover of our souls. He loves us with a perfect and complete love.  It doesn't matter what obstacles lie in front of us, we have to get to our love. I have to be with my Love, and if He is calling me to be with Him in Guatemala, I must go. If it is Oklahoma, I must go. If Cambodia, i must go with urgency. No matter the location or vocation, if He is calling it, then you won't experience Jesus the same out of that place of obedience.

Uriah was dead set on his mission. He was even had permission to settle, but he didn't care. Many time in our life people will try to talk us down, talk us into settling out of the life Jesus calls us to live. But He can't, we must press on.

Uriah's obedience and refusal to back down on the mission cost him his life, and the same could be true for me and you. But it is worth far more to die in obedience than to live in disobedience.

Application: today I am praying for this radical faithfulness in my heart and actions towards God and the people He puts in my life.
