Eph 5.21

//Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ//
Ephesians 5:21

As I prayed over this verse this morning the Lord brought three different truths to my mind on submission. The first being, submission is worship unto the Lord. It find it beautiful that verse 21 comes right after an encouragement to be filled with the power of the Spirit and that will manifest in praise to Jesus. Verse 18-20 says “But be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” As we are filled with the power of the Spirit, worship will be an overflow.  A Spirit filled life is a life that rooted in thanksgiving and praise to the Lord. Worship is contagious. True worship causes others to notice and be drawn to the object of worship. Think about the privilege that we have to be a testimony and light to God through our worship to Him. Not only is He worshiped and treasured, but it causes others to look up to HIm. When we have a heart of praise, submission will be another form of worship. Instead of viewing it as a punishment, it will be a glorious way to lift up His name.

Submission is true strength. We often get tripped up in our thinking and adopt the world’s definitions of words, strength being one of those words. But Biblically and through the life of Jesus, I see strength defined through humility. True strength is humility. It’s not found in taking charge of your life, but entrusting it to a Faithful God. Because of the strength and power of God, we don’t have to fight for our rights, but submit to Him and uphold others as greater than ourself, and He will bring it all together. Strength is found in submission. This leads us to the next point, Submission is the fruit of humility. True humility is counting others more significant than ourself. We can’t manufacture humility, the imitation is disgusting, but true humility is a beautiful and powerful testimony. As we worship the Lord in spirit and truth, He will produce true humility in our lives that will manifest itself in submission to God and others out of a pure heart.

Submission is worship. Submission is strength and submission is humility. When we are caught up in the worship and glory of God, submission to Him will be a gift and not a curse.

Application:Today my prayer is that the Lord produce in me a heart that views submission as a gift and form of worship unto Him.
